Sangam Teacher Study Visit to South India
General
An 11-day professional development opportunity focusing on curriculum themes with school visits, discussions and resource gathering. The main objective is to enable groups of no more than 10 teachers to learn at first hand about this very different and rapidly developing country and culture, explore the local environment and take part in a choice of activities to bring back relevant learning and resources to their school.
The visits are structured to suit the curriculum needs of the members of the group. For example, you may want to gather material for a geography case study of an Indian village, or the rapidly changing city of Bangalore for a development unit, or the environmental issue of water. You may want to discover the world of Indian music, art, dance, cookery or story. You can spend time in local schools and do some teaching.
Who can apply?
Teachers from all phases of education.
Commitment
In addition to the visit there is an essential preparation session to share objectives and hear full information and advice about travel, health and cultural issues.
There is a charge for the study visit. £500 will fully cover all costs in India, including accommodation, food, study packs and travel. The airfare is currently around £506. You will also need a visa (£30), vaccinations and travel insurance.
Outcomes
The outcomes relate to increasing teachers' first-hand experience of a different country and culture, enriching curriculum subjects, particularly geography, art and RE and to strengthen the global dimension within their schools.
