Tide~global learning Study Visit to The Gambia
General
A professional development opportunity for teachers who are taking a lead role in supporting global learning and sustainable development in primary schools, including those who may be considering educational partnerships. This course takes a critical approach to global learning and sustainable development issues. It is now in its tenth year.
Who can apply?
Teachers who are supporting sustainable development in primary schools and who have an interest in working with colleagues from The Gambia.
Commitment
There is a charge for the Study visit. It cost £995 for February 2009, to be met by individuals or their institutions. (Due to fluctuating fuel prices, all flights are subject to unforeseen surcharges. Tide~ reserves the right to adjust the course fee in the event of any surcharges.) The project will cover flights, accommodation, transportation and main meals. Participants take responsibility for additional refreshments, travel insurance, medical costs and UK travel costs.
Before the visit there are interviews for places, an initial preparatory meeting and meetings in November, December and January to prepare in more detail for the visit. The one week visit takes place in February. There are follow up meetings to visit in March and April. In addition to scheduled sessions together, participants will engage in personal study - including maintaining a reflective learning journal and conducting an in-depth personal investigation.
Outcomes
The visit promotes professional reflection and creativity in responding to the DCSF framework for sustainable schools, explores issues about global learning, uses the experience of a Gambian study visit for your own personal and professional development and draws on this experience to develop skills in leading and supporting others.
