East of England Development Education Network (EEDEN)

EEDEN is a strategic partnership of local authorities’ education advisory services, Initial Teacher Education institutions, and Development Education Centres in Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. The network was established in conjunction with the Department for International Development initiative ‘Enabling Effective Support for the global dimension in schools’

The purpose of the EEDEN is to work in partnership to enable teachers and ITE tutors in the East of England to embed global dimensions into their policy and practice so that they can educate pupils:-

  • about global issues;
  • to engage with the wider world;
  • to experience and value diversity;
  • to understand how their choices are enabled by and impact on the lives of others and
  • to act wisely and fairly for a sustainable future.

EEDEN (then EADEN) Strategic Planning Framework, May 2004

A range of innovative activities are underway through the EEDEN partners including:

  • pilot projects in school to develop teachers and pupils' learning about the wider world;
  • pilot projects to develop global dimensions in Initial Teacher Training;
  • continuing professional development opportunities;
  • research into better ways of promoting, disseminating and deploying development education resources;
  • networks for shared learning;
  • dissemination of best practice.
