Ways of Learning

Pupils have opportunities to learn about global dimensions.

This describes opportunities within the planned curriculum to develop knowledge and understanding of global dimensions. This can be subject based or a cross-curricular approach. Participatory activities promote empathy and encourage pupils to reflect on their values and attitudes.

Pupils have opportunities to learn with and from peers and people living in different communities and countries.

This describes opportunities to exchange information through collaborative curriculum projects, visits or exchanges. The shared information and possibly contrasting views of the topic area provide a broader perspective for shared learning. Positive experiences of personal contact help children to value other lifestyles, languages and cultures.

Opportunities to learn about and to learn with and from others provide the educational experiences to learn for global citizenship.

Citizenship Education: the global dimension Guidance for Key Stages 3 and 4 identifies five stages towards participative and experiential learning.
